Acrylic on wood + mini figures | 3 x 4′ | SOLD
Jesus Revolution is a reflection of the apostolic age we live in today. The 726 black and gray figures represent the culture who all point their weapons at Jesus. The 89 colored figures represent followers of Christ who are outward facing as Jesus’s disciples would’ve been tending to the crowds during his teachings. The only fully blue figures are the 4 teardrops falling from Jesus’s eyes one for each gospel, and a reminder of the shortest scripture verse, “Jesus wept.” The spotless lamb looks to Christ as the One True Lamb. A bloody nail from a live reenactment of the stations of the cross is hidden in the painting. All of the figures in the direction of Ironman’s outstretched hand are shrunk because when the Good News is preached we decrease, and God increases. Paradoxically, Ironman is positioned on the only moving aspect of the painting, a rotating tank, which reveals our daily weakness to turn and join the crowd. The 12, 4 inch cowboys and Indians represent the 12 disciples. Judas is pointing his gun at Jesus behind his back with a noose around his neck. Longinus, the partially blind centurion soldier that pierced Jesus’s side, is painted half blue, half red showing the blood and water that gushed over his face which healed and converted him. Longinus is the only figure depicted twice besides Jesus, we see him in green on his knees bowing down before the crucifix. Zacchaeus is visible in the tree and its sandy base is made from mustard seeds. Birkenstock clips are hidden in each corner of the painting representing the call to go and evangelize the corners of the earth. Phew, that was a lot of symbolism! Good news…there are even more “Easter Eggs” in this painting, if you’d like to find more, reach out and I’ll show you in person! May God bless you!
